Myanmar Junta government is GUILTY!

GUILTY of crimes against the Burmese peoples!

The Burma court’s GUILTY verdict (3-years hard labor; commuted to 18 months under house arrest) to Daw Aung San Suu Kyi is a travesty of justice and a mockery of the rule of law.

This ruling is but a preview of the coming 2010 elections in Burma. How will this government respect and perform free and fair elections when it proceeded with trumped up charges against Suu Kyi, ensured her conviction and now will carry out an 18 month house arrest. The junta’s obvious game-plan is to deny again, defy again and subvert once more the will of the overwhelming majority of the Burmese people.

The Burmese junta continues to defy international pressure for an end to the persecution of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and the struggling Burmese people. It is the major obstacle to the democratic aspirations of the Burmese people. It shows how the junta strips away the Burmese people’s humanity.

If the junta will continue to commit grave acts of injustices, its fall will be inevitable because the “GUILTY verdict” is causing a bandwagon of dissent inside and outside Burma. When the bells of justice toll in a free Burma, this junta will pay for its crimes against humanity.

The worsening situation in Burma is sending a message to the world. No room for reforms under the junta’s rule and what is left for the Burmese peoples is to act for a complete change of system. Only a free and democratic Burma with democratically elected leaders can ensure the respect, protection and fulfillment of the human rights of its people.

We urge the ASEAN Intergovernmental Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) to take necessary action on Burma. AIHRC must create a country investigating body for Burma.

We also urge the international community to push Myanmar government to implement the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights’ (UNOHCHR) recommendation, thru its Special Raporteur on the situation of Human Rights in Myanmar Thomas Ojea Quintana to unconditionally release all prisoners of conscience.

The Myanmar Junta Government is GUILTY of crimes against its people!

Free Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and all political prisoners!

Free Burma Now!
