Kachin People have ruled their land before British came to Burma. The administration of Burmese king never reached to Kachin territories. Before Burma gained independence from the British, Gen. Aung San made a promise guaranteeing the rights and freedom of Kachin people including right of self-determination. Kachin leaders signed in Panglong agreement on Feb 12th 1947 as they trusted the promise base on the fact that guarantee the right of self-determination with Gen. Aung San and his Burmese political leaders. The Panglong agreement is still valid and should preserve by all ethnic groups who signed the agreement, Shan, Chin, Kachin, and Karenni. All Burmese citizens and ethnic minorities and Burmese elected government should respect the will of Kachin people and Panglong agreement signed by Kachin Du Was(leaders).
