Most of the people on the planet have the opinion that one day there will be only one race, one belief and one religion in the future. I agree with that. Just imagine that more and more races are becoming extinct. ‘Pyu’ people once lived in Burma, but we can’t see them now. No one can prove with evidence which caused them extinct.
No one can exactly say which race will be the last to stand. Nowadays Kachins women get married with Burmese guys. Burmese soldiers try to marry Kachins women. As a result their children become Burmese(pls I need help to prove this scientifically). The military government of Burma try to use this method to make not only all the Kachins but also other ethnics disappear. So that in Burma, there will be only one race (Burmese) in the future.
Now it’s time (quit late already) to think about reconciliation among us. Let’s be united. But by ‘let’s be united’, I don’t mean to say, ‘Don’t marry Burmese guys. Marry your own Kachins boys.’ No. I am not saying such things. However you need to know that we Kachins are fighting for our FREEDOM. Burma already has the independence. But we Kachins do not have any autonomy yet. And do you think we kachins have the same rights like Burmese do? The answer is NO.
Look back to your Kachin history; learn how we lived our life and shared our joy together. We are not Burmese: Burmese are not Kachins. Ofcourse you can marry a Burmese man or woman if you want. But make sure you get access to human rights and you don’t hurt your own people. You can marry one later in the future when you do not need to care about Burmese Master-spirited policy (lu-myo-gyi-wa-dah) to enslave all Kachins. But it is not yet time to marry a Burmese guy or a woman.
Why? Because you cannot trust any Burmese yet. Why can’t we trust? Because no one can assure you whether or not there will be any civil war, anti-Burmese war or anti-Shan war like the one that happened in Kachin State in 1988. At that time Kachins killed Shans and Shans killed Kachins. And in KIA there were lots of Burmese spies who entered KIA through their married wives’ contact.
I am neither saying ‘ Kachins are right and Burmese are wrong nor Burmese are right and Kachins are wrong.’ Both need to understand each other. Burmese are good people: so are Kachins. The only person who is to blame is The small military group called SPDC. The reason why Kachins do not like Burmese is because Burmese is majority in SPDC. So the question we have to ask is, ‘Do we generalise all Burmese to be bad just because majority Burmese based SPDC is bad?’ ‘Does “majority” mean “all”?’
Therefore don’t accept any mixed-blood strategy of SPDC.
The point is Kachins women should know about this and they have to know the situation why they shouldn’t get married with a Burmese guy YET.
Another conflict we are facing is a common language. We Kachins do not officially have a common language. Jinghpaw language is widely spoken among us but there are a number of people who do not agree with this. If we want to build unity, we have to build friendship first. But friendship cannot be reached without communication. We will not have Good communication without a common language. Do you think you will get an English friend if you don’t speak English? No way. Ofcourse there are some exceptions but having a common language is the key.
Let alone the common language. Let us look at our ethnic name. Are we kachins? Are we Jinghpaws? Are we not jinghpaws but only Wunpawng which means ‘united’? Is the Kachin State Day Jinghpaw Mungdaw Nhtoi in Kachin or in Jinghpaw? Is ‘Jinghpaw Mungdaw Nhtoi’ in Kachin language or in Jinghpaw language only? Which do you like or what do you think? Do you think we should speak Jinghpaw as our common language or what else would you prefer?
Please think carefully and seriously if you are Kachin. And send me your comments on these issues and forward this to as many Kachins as you can reach.
PS ( I am not a linguist or a politician but I am pure Kachin and I love my people. Don’t you think we need to know what people think and do a survey on which should be the common language? Shut shai ai lam nga yang sharai ya rit.)
